Background information:
The disc covers two centuries of music, providing a searching test for the soloist. The Bach Suite has had a strange history. It started life as a work for violin, and was then arranged for lute. Now in a modern adaptation is appears in an arrangement for guitar. The work has become one of the composer's best known, the Gavotte third movement being performed in many guises. The Sonata by Ponce was composed in 1929, and pays homage to the music of Franz Schubert. In four contrasting movements, it is engaging music of a lyrical nature, happy in general mood, but is in no way derivative of the famous composer.

The works by Tárrega are typically colourful Spanish scores, packed full of virtuosity and vivacity. They are late 19th century in general style, and would have been used by the composer to please his audience. The three works by Sulek would meet our expectations of a composer who looked musically backwards. Walton, on the other hand, wrote five short movements that bristle with technical difficulties, the score residing in the mainstream of the 20th century.

Göran Söllscher - guitar

Göran Söllscher returns to his first love, the music of the Baroque Era -- interpreted on his magnificent 11-string guitar - with a new programme of popular favourites and musical rarities.
Here is a beautifully sequenced Baroque album to the successful Schubert for Two , featuring such popular melodies as Bach’s Air on a G string, and two Minuets from the famous Notebook of Anna Magdalena Bach, as well as rarities by well-known composers, like Pachelbel’s Suite in F sharp minor and Couperin’s Les baricades mistérieuses.
A Suite in G major by Johann Anon Logy is receiving its world-première recording: Göran found the music manuscript in the library of his home town in Sweden.
All pieces are performed on the 11-string guitar, giving an incredibly rich, sustained sound, as well as adding an octave to the bottom of its register – as if combining the sound of a guitar with that of the lute.
The Galaxy Studio in Mol, Belgium provided an ideal recording venue – it’s probably the quietest studio in the world, with no extraneous noise, thus allowing us to capture the instrument’s full range and resulting in a recording of extraordinary clarity.
The CD booklet includes an informal interview with Göran Söllscher.

In a hospital waiting room a woman learns her daughter, Solmaz Gholami, has just given birth. The ultrasound test had prepared the family for a boy. The baby, it turns out, is a girl. The joy the mother anticipated turns to terror for she knows her son-in-law's family will abandon her daughter. The old woman flees as the in-laws arrive. On the crowded streets of Tehran - a place where women are not permitted to stay out on their own or smoke in public - two women are also on the run. Arezou and Nargess have just been granted temporary leave from prison but they have no plans to return. They manage to scrounge together enough money for the bus trip to Nargess' hometown, but she lacks proper identification, and the police are searching everyone at the station. Meanwhile, their friend Pari has just escaped from prison in order to have an abortion. Threatened with death by her brothers, she flees from her father's house and meets with a former inmate, Elham, who is now married to a doctor and works in a hospital. Despite her connections, Elham is unable to help Pari in her hour of need. Despondent, Pari wanders the streets and chances upon Nayereh, a woman about to abandon her young daughter. Pari tries to stop her, but it is too late. Soon after, Nayareh, falsely accused of prostitution, is taken into custody by the police. As Panahi's narrative shifts dynamically from woman to woman, their stories culminate with tremendous potency, transforming a shared sense of despair and injustice into one kinship, and even hope.

A deaf old man wearing a hearing aid is walking in the streets of Rasht. When the surroundings get too noisy, he turns off his sound. Unfortunately, when he returns home, he doesn’t hear his granddaughter, home from school, vainly ringing the doorbell. A chorus of children gathers to penetrate the old man's silence.

This is one of Abbas Kiarostami's finest short works. With the minimum of elements and every pound of sensibility and grace he could afford, the Iranian master shot a precious and brief manifest of some things really worth in life. You can see Víctor Erice's "The spirit of the beehive" (1973) - shot ten year before, and surely well known by Kiarostami -and maybe some curious Raymond Depardon's children in between the warm frames of this tiny piece that everyone who wants to be a director must see. Emir Kusturica and the No Smoking Orchestra released a new album in mid-June, Time of the Gypsies: Punk Opera, a few days before the opera itself opens at Opéra Bastille in Paris on 26 June 2007. Based on Gordan Mihić and Emir Kusturica's script for the film of the same name, it was adapted by Nenad Jankovic and is performed in the Gypsy language.

Emir says, “The main theme of the opera will be Ederlezi. It’s a story about youth, entering in the real world, and we used this theme as it’s the most relevant Gipsy song, and we made of it a kind of purification and cathartic journey trough life“. Ederlezi is the Gypsy name for the celebration of St. George Day and is something of a celebration of the coming of Spring.

Emir Kusturica's new film, Promise Me This is in the official selection for the 60th Cannes Film Festival. He was won Palm D'Ors for When Father Was Away for Business(1985) and Underground(1995).

The Concert For Bangladesh was the event title for two benefit concerts organized by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar, held at noon and at 7:00 p.m. on August 1, 1971, playing to a total of 40,000 people at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Organized for the relief of refugees in East Pakistan (now independent Bangladesh), the event was the first benefit concert of this magnitude in world history. It featured an all-star supergroup of performers that included Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston and Leon Russell. An album was released later in 1971 and a concert film was released in 1972, with later releases for home video. In 2005, the film was re-issued on DVD accompanied by a new documentary. The concert raised US$243,418.50 for Bangladesh relief, which was administered by UNICEF. Sales of the album and DVD continue to benefit the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF

MTV Unplugged in New York is a live album by the American grunge band, Nirvana. It was released in November 1994. It features an acoustic concert the band played at Sony Music Studios in New York City on November 18, 1993. The show, directed by Beth McCarthy, first aired on MTV on December 14, 1993.

Nirvana - Unplugged In New York was released officially on DVD worldwide on November 19, 2007 (13 years, 8 months and 14 days after Cobain's death) , with a US and Canadian release on November 20, 2007. Bonus features include the original broadcast version of the performance, the 'CD' length version which includes "Oh, Me" and "Something In The Way", interviews with the band and members of the audience, and five selections from the filmed rehearsal: "Come As You Are", "Polly", "Plateau", "Pennyroyal Tea", and "The Man Who Sold The World."

Having just recorded with Miles Davis (Tribute to Jack Johnson, 1971), guitarist extraordinaire John McLaughlin and thunderous drummer Billy Cobham joined together with Jan Hammer (electric and acoustic piano), violinist Jerry Goodman, and electric/acoustic bassist Rick Laird to produce this remarkable 1971 debut. The approach taken on the Inner Mounting Flame fused the energy of rock with an admixture of jazz, resulting in a rock-jazz hybrid (with an emphasis on the rock side of the equation).

The music on this album simply burns and at times the intensity is frightening. Odd meters abound (e.g. 5/8, 9/8, although even more exotic meters are used), with numerous and hairpin metric shifts and some really weird root movements. McLaughlin plays with such passion, volume, and sheer speed that he makes contemporary electric guitar "shredmasters" look like they are moving in slow motion...or simply asleep. Although this album really knocks you for a loop, there are also some great grooves and quieter, more calm and reflective moments (A Lotus on Irish Streams). All of the guys in the band are excellent musicians and most importantly, they listen to one another - as a result there is some excellent interplay, especially between McLaughlin, Hammer, and Goodman. Cobham of course is a true virtuoso and his superb technique never ceases to amaze. Last but not least, bassist Rick Laird is the anchor in the band and keeps everybody from launching into orbit around the Earth.

Recorded live 29 April 1970 at the Fillmore West, San Francisco, California. (Be careful not to confuse this set with the Floyd's studio appearance at KQED, which was videotaped earlier on the same day and which has been widely circulated.)

This show has been circulating for many years as an incomplete soundboard recording in excellent quality, missing the beginning of "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" and all but the first minutes of "A Saucerful of Secrets". It has been one of the most bootlegged concerts in Pink Floyd's career, with many previous RoIOs released under real and fictitious dates (one of the most common claiming to be live at Winterland on 21 October 1970). However, Interstellar Encore trumped those earlier releases by interpolating a second source, recorded from the audience and also in excellent quality, that includes the full "A Saucerful of Secrets" and the previously-unknown encore, a powerful performance of "Interstellar Overdrive" (which gives this RoIO its title). Also included are some between-song conversations which were missing on earlier releases. Interstellar Encore does not, however, include the first half of "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun", which reportedly is on the audience source but suffers from severe tape speed problems.

Harvested Records has remastered this show, removing a chirping noise that plagues certain sections of the recording, and released it as Interstellar Fillmore. Other CDR releases of this show are numerous, and the complete "second source" (audience tape) is available in Pink Floyd trading circles, though hard to find.

Through his long takes (there are only 39 shots in the entire 2h25m film), planned and choreographed with such precision and care, Tarr compels the audience's attention to linger on the characters as well as on the entire mise-en-scène - allowing all aspects of the film to permeate conscious and subconscious of the viewer. The actors he has chosen masterfully convey the emotion and thought processes of the characters they portray. The sparse, strangely beautiful music is a perfectly utilized element, and the rich black-and-white cinematography adds greatly to the atmosphere.

This story takes place in a small town on the Hungarian Plain. In a provincial town, which is surrounded with nothing else but frost. It is bitterly cold weather - without snow. It is twenty degrees below zero. Even in this bewildered cold hundreds of people are standing around the circus tent, which is put up in the main square, to see - as the outcome of their wait - the chief attraction, the stuffed carcass of a real whale. The people are coming from everywhere. From the neighbouring settlings, from different holes of the Plain, even from quite far away parts of the country. They are following this clumsy monster as a dumb, faceless, rag-wearing crowd. This strange state of affairs - the appearance of the foreigners, the extreme frost - disturbs the order of the small town. The human connections are overturning, the ambitious personages of the story feel they can take advantage of this situation, while the people who are condemned anyway to passivity fall into an even deeper uncertainty. The tension growing to the unbearable is brought to explosion by the figure of the Prince, who is pretending facelessness and is lying low behind the whale. Even his mere appearance is enough to break loose the destroying emotions. The apocalypse that sweeps away everything spares nothing. I does not spare the outsiders wrapped up in scientificness, does not spare the teenage enthusiasts, the people who have philistine fears for ease, the family - nothing that the European culture preserved as from of attitude in the last centuries.

Released in the summer of 1968 -- a year after the summer of love, but still in the thick of the Age of Aquarius - Creedence Clearwater Revival's self-titled debut album was gloriously out-of-step with the times, teeming with John Fogerty's Americana fascinations. While many of Fogerty's obsessions and CCR's signatures are in place -- weird blues ("I Put a Spell on You"), Stax R&B (Wilson Pickett's "Ninety-Nine and a Half"), rockabilly ("Susie Q"), winding instrumental interplay, the swamp sound, and songs for "The Working Man" -- the band was still finding their way. Out of all their records (discounting Mardi Gras), this is the one that sounds the most like its era, thanks to the wordless vocal harmonies toward the end of "Susie Q," the backward guitars on "Gloomy," and the directionless, awkward jamming that concludes "Walking on the Water." Still, the band's sound is vibrant, with gutsy arrangements that borrow equally from Sun, Stax, and the swamp. Fogerty's songwriting is a little tentative. Not for nothing were two of the three singles pulled from the album covers (Dale Hawkins' "Susie Q," Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell on You") -- he wasn't an accomplished tunesmith yet. Though "The Working Man" isn't bad, the true exception is that third single, "Porterville," an exceptional song with great hooks, an underlying sense of menace, and the first inkling of the working-class rage that fueled such landmarks as "Fortunate Son." It's the song that points the way to the breakthrough of Bayou Country, but the rest of the album shouldn't be dismissed, because judged simply against the rock & roll of its time, it rises above its peers.

Why did science emerge in the West and how did scientific values come to be regarded as the yardstick for all other forms of knowledge? Stephen Gaukroger shows just how bitterly the cognitive and cultural standing of science was contested in its early development. Rejecting the traditional picture of secularization, he argues that science in the seventeenth century emerged not in opposition to religion but rather was in many respects driven by it. This distinctive feature of the development of a scientific culture in the West marks it out from other scientifically productive cultures. In The Emergence of a Scientific Culture, Stephen Gaukroger offers a detailed and comprehensive account of the formative stages of this development---and one which challenges the received wisdom that science was seen to be self-evidently the correct path to knowledge and that the benefits of science were immediately obvious to the disinterested observer.

The competition formed as the FA Premier League on 20 February 1992 and the first games were played on 15 August that year, following the decision of clubs in the Football League First Division to break away from The Football League to take advantage of a lucrative television rights deal. Since then it has progressed to become the world's most watched sporting league, and the most lucrative football league, with member club revenues totalling a figure in excess of £1.4 billion.[1]

A total of 40 clubs have competed in the Premier League, but only four have won the title: Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal, and Chelsea. The current Premier League champions are Manchester United, who won their ninth title in the 2006–07 season. Manchester United have won the most Premiership titles, nine in total.

Life is what we're all a part of, whether good or bad, we must succeed in the most positive way we know how or it can take us over in grief and despair, as it has with one man. This man wants to rid himself of the world, but in a twist, he wants to make sure his body lays resting in a peaceful and good place. His journey has him searching for just that person who'll help him with his final plans.

Mr. Badii (Homayan Ershadi) is a man whose quest leads him to many revelations about people and life while in his search for someone to help properly assist him in his demise from the world. Mr. Badii is not looking for someone to kill him, but rather cover him with the earth from which all good things come. He has already found his burial spot and dug the hole in which he shall place himself. Now Mr. Badii only needs to find the person who will help him. The interesting thing is if Mr. Badii is not dead, he wishes for the same hand that will throw the dirt on top of him, to take his hand and help him out of the grave, if he responds to his name being called.
